A special place for stitchers at Reads of Winchester sewing machine specialists

Reads of Winchester is a treasure trove for anyone who loves sewing. This tiny shop carries a huge stock of sewing machines – not just the average range of stitchers, but the latest speciality embroidery machines, needle felting machines plus second-hand, ready serviced models. The shop was established many years ago and my machines have been serviced there for over 20 years. My sewing room is stocked with three of the latest models!

It’s Sarah who makes Reads of Winchester special. She knows every machine in detail, ensuring the highest quality of care for her customers. You can take time to try the machines in the shop before buying. There’s a small stock of interesting patchwork fabrics along with unusual glitter threads in amongst the ever-changing stock of machines for sale.

The shop occupies a quiet spot, just off the historic high street in Winchester. Find the majestic clock outside Lloyds TSB and turn left! It’s certainly worth paying a special trip to the city for – sampling the stitchers, stocking up on thread and then exploring all the other lovely things Winchester has to offer. King Alfred’s statue keeps watch over the lower end of town and the high street winds its way up past some fantastic shops and eateries. My favourite stops are The Square with its vibrant café culture and Parchment Street with its speciality shops heralded by the kite flyer.
